Denzel Washington stars in Spike Lee's reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's kidnap crime thriller.

For his fifth film collaboration with Denzel Washington, Spike Lee reinterprets Akira Kurosawa's 1963 classic High and Low, a tense police procedural about a wealthy man whose driver's son was accidentally kidnapped instead of his own. Lee transposes the film to New York City, where a titan music mogul (Washington) is on the verge of a critical deal鈥攁nd it's not a great time to pay the ransom on behalf of his loyal driver (Jeffrey Wright).

Spike Lee makes the film his own, though, with the immersion into the music industry and an escalation of the life-and-death moral dilemma to the sort of action thriller which few actors can carry as well as Washington. With great supporting turns from Ice Spice and A$AP Rocky, this latest Spike Lee Joint has "wit, high style and kinetic energy to burn" (The Hollywood Reporter).
